Bract reduction in Cruciferae: possible genetic mechanisms and evolution

چکیده

This review is an attempt to analyze possible ways of bractless infl orescence formation in Cruciferae. Function of genes which are supposed to play a certain role in a process of bract reduction/development – LFY, AP1, AP2, BOP1, BOP2, JAG, FUL/AGL8, SOC1/AGL20, BRA – is discussed with concentration on the structure of fl owers and infl orescences, based on the results of genetic analysis (including data on gene expression). The potential of these genes in the evolutionary process of bract reduction is hypothesized.

Optimization of the Kinematic Sensitivity and the Greatest Continuous Circle in the Constant-orientation Workspace of Planar Parallel Mechanisms

This paper presents the results of a comprehensive study on the efficiency of planar parallel mechanisms, considering their kinetostatic performance and also, their workspace. This aim is approached upon proceeding single- and multi-objective optimization procedures. Kinetostatic performances of ten different planar parallel mechanisms are analyzed by resorting to a recent index, kinematic sens...

Expression of SHOOT MERISTEMLESS, WUSCHEL, and ASYMMETRIC LEAVES1 homologs in the shoots of Podostemaceae: implications for the evolution of novel shoot organogenesis.

Podostemaceae (the river weeds) are ecologically and morphologically unusual angiosperms. The subfamily Tristichoideae has typical shoot apical meristems (SAMs) that produce leaves, but Podostemoideae is devoid of SAMs and new leaves arise below the base of older leaves. To reveal the genetic basis for the evolution of novel shoot organogenesis in Podostemaceae, we examined the expression patte...

A conserved mechanism of bract suppression in the grass family.

Suppression of inflorescence leaf, or bract, growth has evolved multiple times in diverse angiosperm lineages, including the Poaceae and Brassicaceae. Studies of Arabidopsis thaliana mutants have revealed several genes involved in bract suppression, but it is not known if these genes play a similar role in other plants with suppressed bracts. We identified maize (Zea mays) tassel sheath (tsh) m...

Multilevel Analysis of Morphometric Data from Natural Plant Populations: Insights into Ontogenetic, Genetic, and Selective Correlations in Dalechampia Scandens.

I examined patterns of covariation of three morphometric blossom characters [gland area (GA), gland-stigma distance (GSD), and bract length (BL)] within genets, among genets, and among populations of the tropical vine, Dalechampia scandens (Euphorbiaceae). Covariance between BL and GA was evenly distributed among the three levels. This observation, coupled with developmental information, indica...

Using Paclobutrazol to Control Height of Poinsettia ‘Freedom’

Late-season height control of poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima) is difficult since most chemical growth retardants adversely reduce bract size when applied after first bract color. Paclobutrazol (Bonzi) controls stem elongation late in poinsettia crop development but can excessively reduce bract size if improperly applied. Two experiments were conducted to quantify how paclobutrazol applicatio...
